April 2016 DBP Data Center Inc. has started a new project with its mother company, The Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), for digitizing its microfilms.
DBP has engaged in computerizing data and processes. Since some physical or source documents are in microfilm, it is mandated that these analog images be converted to digital copies.
With the advent of Digital Technology, there is a decrease in the production and advancement of Microfilm Readers, which results to very high maintenance costs and even the absence of Support outmoded Microfilm Readers and Printers.
Eventually, this will impact the irretrievability, access and usage of microfilms.
The project is to initially convert Office of the Corporate Secretary (OCS) microfilm rolls that contain over 5 million images to be digitized in a period of six months.
